FAQ

Food Provisioning & Shopping on Zanzibar

Why don’t guests do their own food shopping?

Food shopping on Zanzibar works very differently than in Europe. There is no single supermarket where everything can be purchased. Products are spread across local markets, fishermen, and small suppliers in different parts of the city and surrounding areas. Doing this individually is time-consuming, physically demanding, and inefficient during a holiday.

What kind of food is available locally?

The region offers excellent, very fresh products: local vegetables, many exotic fruits unavailable in Europe, and outstanding seafood such as fish, octopus, and other marine products. Most of these are wild-caught or locally grown, not industrially farmed or processed.

Are the fish and seafood farmed?

No. Fish and seafood come directly from local fishermen. They are wild-caught and delivered fresh. This is one of the major advantages of sailing in this region.

Why are local suppliers used instead of guests shopping themselves?

Foreigners are often quoted prices many times higher than locals. Without local knowledge and trusted contacts, pricing becomes unpredictable. We work with trusted local suppliers who know the markets, negotiate local prices, and deliver products directly to the yacht.

Is the quality and source of products consistent?

Yes. Using the same network of suppliers allows us to maintain consistent quality, freshness, and reliable sourcing. This is especially important for the chef, who needs predictable products to plan meals properly.

Does provisioning cost extra?

Yes. The service includes sourcing, negotiating, transportation, delivery to the yacht, and coordination. This service has a cost, and a small handling margin is included to cover organization and logistics.

What catering options do you offer?

Full Board – EUR 1,200

Includes full provisioning and preparation of all meals using fresh local products.

Luxury Full Board – EUR 2,500

Includes premium-quality products, a wider seafood selection, and alcoholic beverages.

Can dietary requirements be accommodated?

Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergy-related, or other special dietary requirements can be arranged in advance.

Can guests visit local markets if they want to?

Absolutely. Visiting local markets can be arranged as a cultural experience if guests are interested. However, it is not recommended as the main provisioning method during the charter.

Why is Full Board recommended?

Full Board ensures that guests do not lose valuable holiday time on logistics and shopping, while guaranteeing food quality, consistency, and comfort throughout the charter
